It's all about you!

Big Fish Little Fish Swim School Ⓡ

Our National Curriculum Swimming Lessons are proudly delivered by the Fylde Coast's Largest independent Swim School - Big Fish Little Fish Swim School.

  • The only STA Swim Star Accredited Swim School on the Fylde Coast
  • The only CIMSPA employer partner recognised swim school on the Fylde Coast
  • The only swim school on the Fylde coast to have it's own STA Aquatic Teacher Tutor & Assessor
  • The only swim school on the Fylde coast to have it's own purpose built swimming facility, designed entirely for one purpose - teaching learners of all ages to swim

A System Designed For You!

We recognise all learners have different levels of experience toward Aquatic environments.

To reflect this, all learners are provided ability forms for initial grouping - followed by further assessments in the water.

Ensuring your learner not only is placed in the correct group, but also ensuring learners who require more time in the water during the scholastic year are provided that opportunity.

Each Learner is incredibly important to us & the pathway your learner experiences is unique to their abilities.

A Pool Made For You!

A huge part of a learners Aquatic experience is the facility.

It's very easy for a learner to feel intimidated by a large public facility & in addition such facilities are often cold.

The Big Fish Little Fish pool is the only pool on the Fylde

coast that was specifically built for swimming lessons.

  • 15x5m with a all round depth of 1.4m
  • Constant minimum temperature of 31 degrees all year round
  • Exclusive use for your primary school
  • Dedicated staff every week for consistent learning
  • Warm - Clean - Welcoming; always be greeted by a smile & always leave having experienced a fun lesson

Your Achievements Rewarded!

The goal of National Curriculum Swimming Lessons is to attain 25m with surrounding safety skills & this is the target for all learners taking part in the swimming lesson system.

However, all learners have different starting points & the STA School Swimming Academy is an inclusive program recognising the efforts of all learners.

So no matter what stage within the system your learner reaches, they will attain a certificate stating exactly what they can do!

Not only is this a record of achievement, it also provides valuable insight toward your learners ability & will aid gaining access to ability assessed clubs/activities.

All learners efforts are further rewarded with the end of year school swimming gala!

Important Information Please Read

School Swimming Lessons - Optional or Part of the Curriculum?

Please be aware, School Swimming Lessons are not an optional extra to the National Curriculum - they are a part of it.

Much like Maths, English, Literacy, Science, P.E - School Swimming Lessons are part of the Governments requirements & expectation of learning.

As with any physical activity, all considerations are set in place to ensure a safe, fun, progressive & effective learning experience are available to your learner. Before any lessons take place, all learners are required to have returned digital ability & medical forms (available at the bottom of this page).

These forms ensure both Great Arley & Big Fish Little Fish are able to attain as much information as possible about your learner and ensure everything possible can be catered toward your learner, enhancing their learning experience & individual pathway.

It can be incredibly common for parents/carers/guardians/learners to be unsure about water, please be assured however that your learner is in safe, qualified, experienced & dedicated care at all times.

If you or your learner have any concerns towards taking part in the National Curriculum Swimming Lessons, please inform Great Arley via the digital swimming forms or via direct contact.

Quick Questions Answered

No,

As detailed in the above section, please know that School Swimming Lessons are a part of the National Curriculum & as such are compulsory for attendance unless unable to perform exercise in aquatic environments due to medical needs.

If your learner has medical requirements which prevent exercise in aquatic environments please inform Great Arley at your earliest opportunity.

Absolutely!

It's incredibly common for learners to have different experience levels of Aquatic environments & we are here to cater to all those experience levels.

If your learner is nervous or unsure about Aquatic Environments our team will work to those considerations and ensure your learner over comes any level of anxiety, learning to love the water!

All our teaching staff teach within the water at all times, providing;

  • Improved clarity of instruction
  • Accurate demonstrations
  • Enhanced safety for all learners
  • Provision of trust & confidence in the water
  • Immediate responses to questions asked, correction of performance or any safety concern

We certainly do!

All your learner requires for attendance is;

  •  Appropriate sized kit bag (large enough to store all clothing)
  • Swimming Kit - Boys - Above the knee swimming shorts
  • Swimming Kit - Girls - One piece swimming costume
  • Swimming Cap - All learners - If hair is longer than shoulder length or extends over eyes/nose/mouth
  • Towel

Swimming goggles are a welcome optional extra - We however do not provide these. Please ensure your learner has goggles with them if they wish to use them within each lesson.

Our pool is a lovely 31 degrees all year round! No cold shock jumping into the Big Fish HQ!

All learners are required to take part in the National Curriculum for school swimming.

However, our system tailors the experience directly to each learner. Once each learner has been assessed as able to pass the minimum passing standard, we will pass your learner & they will move on to further activities as organised by Great Arley.

We design our online ability forms to provide multiple methods of deducing your learners approximate ability level. So if you are unsure of the exact level your learner is currently at or has previously achieved, do not worry.

Simply complete the forms as best as you can & if you can find out your learners current ability documents, that will be fantastic and place this information into the form.
